Another good news for Teams users. Besides the new Apple augmented reality headset that lets you control the app through your very own eyes, those on Android devices are having a little treat, too, as Teams’ Shared Device licenses feature is coming to the ecosystem.

As spotted on Microsoft 365 Roadmap site under Feature ID 126706, this exciting development allows Android phones to be utilized as shared devices, enhancing collaboration and communication within teams.

With this license, Android users will have access to a range of features and functionalities previously available only on common area phones. This includes popular capabilities such as Walkie Talkie, call queues, auto attendants, cloud voicemail, call park, and all other calling features currently supported by Teams.

The inclusion of the Shared Device license on the Teams mobile app for Android opens up new possibilities for organizations and teams that rely on mobile devices for their day-to-day operations. It enables seamless integration and synchronization across different devices, ensuring a consistent and efficient experience regardless of the device being used.

When the feature was first launched back in 2022, Teams’ Shared Device licenses are priced at $8 per device/month across all licensing channels.

When does Teams shared device license come to Android devices?

This exciting update was added to the Microsoft Teams roadmap on June 6, 2023, and is set to enter the General Availability release phase. Rollout is scheduled to commence in August 2023, allowing Android users to take advantage of the Teams Shared Device license and its associated features.

The availability of this feature on the Teams mobile app for Android represents Microsoft’s commitment to empowering teams with the tools and capabilities they need to collaborate effectively, regardless of their location or the devices they use. It further enhances the flexibility and versatility of Teams as a comprehensive collaboration platform.
